The Hill in my backyard...
That garage was ugly....it had a mud floor, and we had bunnies, and chickens in pens inside that garage...now the back yard was a small yard....but my dad planted corn, beans, and veggies...now that I think about it, I wonder how in the world did he make space...my son lives in the house now, and there is no back yard....but daddy built me a snow hill to slide down...so when I wasn't sledding and skating out to our cottage on Lake Erie, I was sliding down the big hill in my back yard....the picture is of my dad, and me...what a wonderful dad I had...I have a picture of him amongst the beans...it's somewhere, so my memory was correct...I never slid down big hills, this was my biggest challenge...LOL Oh by the way, my dad finally did replace the garage with a cinder block one, with a cement floor....

A warm chocolatey memory

****************************************************
The picture above is of my mom and I out to our cottage on lake erie....it would be a cold snowy winter day, usually on sat. or sunday, we would venture out to go ice skating, or sledding.... When I went ice skating I used one of our kitchen chairs to hold me up....I would skate pushing it in front of me....could you see kids this day and age, pushing a chair to skate....LOL....mom would pull me on the sled....bambushca on head, always wool, because it was the warmest...double slacks...we never wore jeans back then....I use to dream I was an fancy ice skater....in my mind I had on a beautiful costume, like the ones I wore when tap dancing....I would twirl, dance, I was really good....in my own mind that is....I wasn't anything without my chair though....after a while on the ice, mom would suggest we go into the cottage for some hot chocolate....we'd go in but there was no heat....but still it felt warm...or warmer...no wind in the cottage....we had an electric stove, so mom would heat the milk and we would sit around the table eating cookies and drinking our hot chocolate...I sure do hope my mom knew how much fun it was skating and sledding with her....I had no friends in the winter at the cottage, so mom was it....she was a great friend....

A Christmas memory
I'd wish with all my might...
That I might hear those jingle bells
Ringing in the night...
A stomping and a HO HO HO
I'd know that he was real...
Oh yes, I do believe I heard
One of the reindeer squeal...
The room in which I spent the night
Was cold and filled with apples...
While hiding under the blankets so warm
I'd sneak a bite, well just to sample...
I finally fell a sleep that night
With dreams of what I'd find...
A bride doll, perhaps with brown hair
She was a beautiful sight...
Christmas morning I'd wake up at dawn
And creep on down the stairs...
The tree was lit with colored lights
And tinsel everywhere...
I'd hear a tinkling sound from bells
Bells hanging on the tree...
OH I do believe in Santa Claus
For my bride doll was waiting for me...
This is a personal memory from my childhood, please do not copy....judy
I might add that the hair on the doll was mine...my mom had my hair cut and put it on my bride doll....I still have the doll....
