This picture of my granddaughter Zola brings back memories of when I was her age....first let me say, the hat was given to her by her aunt linda along with a savings bond...she wouldn't take it off...in fact she rec'd two hats and at times wore them both at once...notice the tag still hanging on it...a mini, minnie pearl....LOL....It was Zola's 2nd birthday. This was her second outfit for the first one she spilled her drink all over...notice cake on the knee...and she is putting on someones shoes...as little girls always enjoy doing...

back to my memories...growing up, and even when my girls were little, it wasn't Easter without an Easter hat and gloves....I wish we could bring back that tradition....Easter use to be so much fun...for me as an only child mom would make me a basket along with all my cousins who lived in Fremont...so Easter sunday after I looked for eggs, and oo'd and aa'd over my Easter basket, we would take off to visit my grandma Bertha and all the cousins...we all exchanged baskets...on the drive to Fremont the back was filled with baskets. Remember when cars had like a shelf behind the back seat...it was lined with baskets...when arriving everyone was showing off their new dresses, coats and gloves...I remember always getting the whole outfit...coat, hat, shoes, dress, slip, socks....now that I say that, I would say I was spoiled...an only child spoiled, who would have thunk....LOL ... but honestly I didn't know it. It was just a way of life...yes I did live the good life...but again, I didn't know it....My kids were also blessed with new clothes...and since what I rec'd was the whole package, that's what mine rec'd....but also there was my mom & dad again...they bought so much for my kids which really helped us out....I loved hiding eggs for the kids....some years inside, and some years outside...I think they were teenagers when I stopped hiding the eggs....then they were real hard boiled colored eggs...forgot one or two, and weeks later found them by their odor....LOL....now everyone hides plastic eggs....of course if your lucky they might have candy, or even money in them....Oh those memories....no more eggs to color, no more baskets to fill...but I do always give Buddy my dog a treat on Easter...my grandkids, I rely on the plastic egg to put a couple of dollars in...growing up money was no object...of course not, it wasn't mine....but it's a different story now....
P>S> Back when I grew up the Easter Hats were called Easter Bonnets....In your Easter Bonnet...with all the frills upon it....You'll be the grandest lady in the Easter Parade....(are ya humming)

enjoying the music...
my dad was agnostic, and my mom was a church goer, but we didn't do the Easter thing (no money for bonnets, baskets, and new dresses) But we did dye eggs as a family. That is a fun memory in my spirit.
People don't seem to wear Easter Bonnets these days which is a shame.
Loved the picture, so cute.
Yvonne.
She is so CUTE!
My childhood Easter memory is that my Mom would make her and I matching Easter dresses. I loved that. :)
We had chickens so we colored hard boiled eggs. We didn't get new clothes for the occassion but mom would make a nice dinner for us and we had an egg hunt. She made our Easter baskets from saved oatmeal boxes and colored crepe paper.
My aunt used to always have new clothes for herself and her two kids. They would usually come to show off what they had.
I don't remember having many new Easter outfits- lol- or any other occasion outfits! We didn't have much in those days except Love-especially Mama's love!
I DO remember one Easter Egg hunt I was a part of as a real little girl... I found an egg...but they made me put it down because they hadn't said 'GO' yet! I'll always remember how embarrassed I was...and I didn't find another egg! :( (bad call by those adults-imo....lol here I am remembering this some 65 years later!!)
LOL-I guess that's why -to this day-I'm still making my own colored eggs! ;)
Love,
Junie
OMG Junie, I'm still laughing... it's funny now, but I can't imagine what they were thinking... and how you must have felt...ahh.. I should color some, just for the heck of it... I'm throwing my name up to see who wants me for Easter...LOL...I have a very small home, so we usually never gather here...sometimes I'm thankful, but other times I miss the get togethers...I do join one of the kids families...thanksgiving and Christmas is when everyone gathers together...thanks for stopping by...I intend to keep check on my blogging friends...they are almost family, and I hate to loose any one of you....so I'll see ya soon....
Thanks for stopping by my blog last week and wishing Jack and I a Happy Easter. Yes, that story of the little boy and heaven is so interesting. I want to buy the book and read it.
