Halloween Parties....

My mom was one of the bestest moms around...she not only hauled me back and forth to dance class (on the bus) but she always threw me parties....as an only child that was pretty special...she not only made all my dance costumes, but she always made my halloween costumes... I can remember having a halloween party in our garage,, which was spooky enough without all the spider webs, and skeletons hanging around...but she made the game of spagetti for brains, pealed grapes for eyeballs, chicken bones for body bones....I know that is something that people do now, but it was new back then, and the kids were spooked out....kids of all ages, just so they lived in the neighborhood, they would be  invited....and when going out to trick or treating the house we would always start with was the Gettings house...Mrs. Gettings (Duane and Carol were my playmates) would always make either candy apples, pop corn balls, something special each year....what a great mom she was.....I always had such fun at the Gettings house....she was the only family with a television back in the 40's....the television with a big glass bubble attached that magnified the picture....we watched wrestling on chairs all lined up in a row, just like a movie theatre, and we were served popcorn....

Back in the old days, no one was worried about home made items....no one thought of putting needles in candy, or shootings....it was safe to go out halloweening by your self...of course my mom was pretty protective, she always went along...she probably thought I'd get lost, or hit by a car....and fact be know I probably would have....now I just pray my grandkids stay safe...what a life change....with each new invention, things get more dangerous...simple....my favorite word is simple....probably because I lived back in the days when life was simple...
